Inspirational Quotes

Listed below are some of the best quotes I have seen in regards to children and developing them as whole human beings.  These individuals have seemingly committed a large amount of time learning the tools needed to bring up great people.

“Discipline is not something we do to children, but something we develop within them.” –Dr. Becky Bailey (Conscious Discipline)

“The child supplies the power but the parents have to do the steering.” –Dr. Benjamin Spock (BrainyQuote)

“All the time a person is a child he is both a child and learning to be a parent.  After he becomes a parent he becomes predominantly a parent reliving childhood.” –Dr. Benjamin Spock (BrainyQuote)

Passion, Motivation and Commitment

“Happiness is mostly a by-product of doing what makes us feel fulfilled.” –Dr. Benjamin Spock (BrainyQuote)

“I’ve seen the wonderful impact that using what I call an anti-bias approach has not just on the children but on the teachers who have to kind of figure out who they are and understand themselves and uncover their own discomforts and misinformation.  So I see adults finding their voice... it’s like they reclaim and heal.” –Louise Derman-Sparks on her passion for helping children discover who they truly are. (Walden University)

“Kids don’t learn from people they don’t like.” – Rita Pierson on her commitment to developing positive relationships with the children she taught. (TED Talk)

  1. Hello Alvia,

I enjoyed reading your blog I also resonate with Dr. Becky Bailey's qoute
“Discipline is not something we do to children, but something we develop within them.” –Dr. Becky Bailey (Conscious Discipline) because giving children the skills and strategies to cope and have discipline is a skill in its own.

  2. I really like that quote as well Paola. What a great find Alvia. I also really liked "All the time a person is a child he is both a child and learning to be a parent." This just shows how much of an impact a child's surrounding have on them- especially their parents.

  3. Alivia,

I like the quote -" “Discipline is not something we do to children, but something we develop within them.” –Dr. Becky Bailey. As teachers, I believe we help children learn what pro-social behavior is and how to integrate into society and with their peers.

  4. Hi Alvia,
Like the others, I enjoy the quote by Dr. Becky Bailey, "Discipline is not something we do to our children, but something we develop within them." - Dr. Becky Bailey. I have two very strong willed daughters that I'm having to learn a different discipline approach for them. There's also a book I've been reading, "Don't Make Me Count To Three", that shows a different approach as well. Instead of pointing out what they are doing wrong, try showing them what could have been said instead. Kids are just as social as adults, so they learn from their environment the most.

Farewell and Best Wishes

Throughout this course, I have learned a number of important information regarding childcare but there are three that stand out to me....
